Music and dance weaving new connections from Fukushima
Following its triumph in Tokyo as the opening work of Festival/Tokyo 2014, “Festival Fukushima! @Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park” returns to the city with its unique dose of free folk culture, music, and dance. From the giant and colorful sheet laid out on the ground of the park, made from materials collected all over Japan, to the team of special Bon dancers wearing vibrant costumes and a Bon dance song created out of Ikebukuro-inspired lyrics, this is an energetic celebration of local culture and accessibility through music and dance. PROJECT FUKUSHIMA! started in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami with the aim of bringing a more positive image to Fukushima again. Its festival events have since spread throughout Japan, creating new connections, encounters, and possibilities everywhere they appear.
