今村昌平監督の「カンゾー先生」の最後のシーン。職人精神で一生を生きてきたある島の医者が、自分を愛する女性と舟遊びに行く。突然海の向こうから第二の太陽が上がる。この奇妙な何かが歴史を変えた原子爆弾であるということが知られないまま、映画は幕を閉じる。（この映画はこのシーンの直前まで物語の背景が1945年だということははっきりしないので、赤い光は観客にも突然のことである。）無知の重さは一生守ってきた知性と熱情を空虚なものにする。「歴史的な現実」は皮膚と感覚を占領しながら一瞬で日常に浸透するが、相変わらず理解されないばかりだ。
