In “Theater/University 09 Spring” 4 different universities are invited to show one
work each as part of the festival program, each and every of them oozing with individual
flavors.
In addition to the presentation of the works, a forum gathering tutors from 6 different universities will be held. Adding to the participation of the related artists, producers, researchers and students, the forum is a platform for vigorous discussion and cultural exchange.

① Presentation by the universities
The approach each university has taken to the work is visualized in the actual stagings
of the performances. On the other hand, the tutors from the respective universities
making up the main panel will explain about the creative processes, present their
lessons and curriculums, as well as the ideas and philosophies that form the background
of their lectures.
Rather than seeking for a completed work, we intend to focus on the ongoing process,
the communication, and how this is related to the future of the theatre.

② Raising the artists of the next generation
Except for a minor number of universities, theatre companies and small theatres have been responsible for the nurturing of the next generation of artists. How will it contribute to the alteration of the future of theatre when the succession of knowledge and skills is available at the universities, together with a generous budget and favorable equipment?

③ A place of exchange and stimulation
The students participating in “Theater/University” will not only perform, but also
watch the other works and participate in the forum as well. What do the students think
of their fellow students’ presentations? This occasion will certainly provide
inspiration and some food for thought for all the participating students.
