Casting “my voice” into the city
With “Wedding Politics,” which posed the reality of same-sex marriage through photography and performance, and “Family Regained: The Picnic” at F/T17, where passersby were asked to take family snapshots of a male couple and their apparent child, Eiki Mori has continued to insert directly experienced questions into public space. For this new work, he departs from his previous reliance on photography and video to inquire into LGBT+ issues and the nature of diversity through reading poetry that incorporates his own experiences and feelings. The performance comes about only when someone witnesses and takes notice of it in a park or alleyway. What kinds of encounters will emerge from Mori’s voice?

The performance on 10/21 (Sun) is canceled in the event of bad weather. Please check the F/T website at noon on the day for confirmation that the performance will take place. However, please be aware that any announcement is subject to further change.

The performance on 10/22 (Mon) at 15:30 takes place at the plaza in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. The performance at 18:00 takes place at the lower plaza inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.

In the event of rain, the performance on 10/22 (Mon) takes place at the lower plaza inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. Please check the F/T website at 12:30 on the day for confirmation that the performance will take place. However, please be aware that any announcement is subject to further change.

Eiki Mori
Photographer

Born in Ishikawa in 1976, Eiki Mori won the Kimura Ihei Award for “intimacy” in 2014. His other photo-books include “tokyo boy alone” (2011) and “Family Regained” (2017) as well as the performance series “Wedding Politics” (2013–16), which explored the theme of same-sex marriage. At F/T17, “Family Regained: The Picnic,” a video work presenting a new model for the family, was screened at Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park and Toshima City Office.
