This screen adaptation of Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek's much-discussed novel paints a dark, destructive love story inside the Vienna bourgeoisie. Controversial but acclaimed on its release in 2001, it won 3 prizes at the Cannes Film Festival and is an ideal companion piece to the 3 Jelinek stage performances at F/T12.
*Recommended for audiences over 16.

On the eve of the end of World War Two at the village of Rechnitz near the Austrian border, a group of aristocratic Nazi supporters hold a party in which 200 Jews are massacred. This documentary turns the spotlight on the people searching for the secret graves of the victims and on the local people from the time who held their silence about what happened for decades. Powerful and thought-provoking, this screening is an ideal opportunity to discover the background for Jelinek's "Rechnitz (Der Würgeengel)" in the main F/T12 Program.
