French dancer, choreographer and poet Rachid Ouramdane confronts acute questions of politically and socially prescribed "beauty". Debuted at Avignon in 2011, Ouramdane's praised approach is unique, with his face covered by heavy make-up as a symbolic screen. With original songs composed of fragments of national anthems, this work reflects on identity and the gaze that surrounds the body.
