It is with great sadness that we announce the news that Nandang Aradea, the leader of Indonesia Theatre of Studio and director of "Overdose: Psycho-Catastrophe", which is participating in Festival/Tokyo 2013, suddenly passed away on October 12 (Saturday) due to a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. He was 42 years old. We offer our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
After discussions with the theatre company, it has been decided to continue with the performances of "Overdose: Psycho-Catastrophe" as planned from November 9th to November 13th.
We look forward to welcoming audiences to the performances.
Festival/Tokyo Executive Committee
One year on from winning the F/T Award for a vivid, unique piece of outdoor theatre countervailing bamboo and the human body, Nandang Aradea and his Indonesia Theatre of Studio had spent a year creating a new work commissioned by Festival/Tokyo. There are no words for the sorrow we all feel about the sudden passing of Nandang Aradea, who fell ill in the final stages of rehearsals. We would like to express our profound respect for the passion and seriousness of his work, and our sadness at his passing.
His theatrical vision and conceptions for new works are carried on and shared by the other members of Indonesia Theatre of Studio with whom he collectively created theatre. Though it now regrettably has become a valediction to Nandang Aradea, the production of "Overdose: Psycho-Catastrophe" will go head as planned in accordance with the strong wishes of the company. We look forward to welcoming you all to the performances.
